On all the Mille.3 components, the motor assembly expands around a high thermal threshold Neodymium REN ring with unique sizes. It is immersed in a structure highlighting the flux symmetry in the air gap, achieving amazing values and ensuring absolute thermal stability, bursting dynamics and total absence of dynamic compression.
The V-cone® profile prevents the cone from deforming during its course, ensuring that the “piston” works in a correct position, maximizing the production of acoustic pressure. In components of smaller diameter like the ML 700.3 Legend midrange, the exponential profile, with the absence of traditional dustcap, gets close to the perfect one generating exceptional dispersion at mid-high frequencies.
This technology, employed on all the Mille.3 components, provides the ability to achieve wider emission surface of the cone compared to speakers with same diameter; that way, the cone manages to move a bigger mass of air, so it produces more acoustic pressure. This special surround is built from highly pure IIR butyl rubber, ensuring extraordinary thermal and mechanical linearity.
The Hertz electroacoustic designers develop a technology specifically thought for the Mille Legend called “Aluminium Shorting Ring”: an aluminium ring is employed, leaving the gap area free, preventing loss of energy in the low frequencies, though keeping the distortion reduction unaltered.
The Hertz electro-acoustic designers had the Mille Legend subs mount a CCAW (Copper Clad Alumium Wire) 100 mm (4”) voice coil, to ensure unparalleled heat dissipation capability compared to the average subs that mount voice coils with considerably smaller diameter. A larger diameter ensures better stability of the voice coil during extended excursions, as that makes the voice coil less sensitive to undesired resonances, such as for example the “rocking mode”.
Besides size, the voice coil features a new winding process called “In/Out”. This technique, although more complex and expensive from a production perspective, provides the ability to obtain an even cooling of the different coil layers. With standard build methods, the internal layers, those close to the former, considering heat dissipation, are more disadvantaged than the external ones. In the case of In/Out coils, thanks to their build, the internal layers have same dissipation capability as the external ones.
The compact antiresonant alloy basket of woofer and subwoofer feature spiders built-in vented holes. Together with the holes of the bottom plate and the motor central hole, these vented holes allow the cone to move as free as it needs making long excursions, eliminating every distortion due to acoustic compression phenomena. The structure self-standing geometry adds to the overall mechanical damping, resulting absolutely transparent to sound.
Extremely high quality bi-metallized 160V polyester film capacitors with ultra-low DF, for maximum sound transparency and neat mid/hi-frequencies. Air wound inductors built on pure copper-wire with up to 1mm diameter, for high saturation threshold of the magnetic flux and low losses on the woofer section where high transient currents are demanded. High power rating Wirewound resistors, to ensure performance stability even at high operating temperature. The Wirewound build construction grants low parasitic series inductance thus reducing losses at high frequencies, especially for resistors in series to the tweeter.
